These are just a few helpful hints that may be of benefit.

They are mentioned because they have already been seen to be of benefit.

Ambulance Costs

Beware !!

Return ambulance transportation, back to Silverado, is not an emergency and may not be covered by insurance!

If the unfortunate event arises when a Loved One is taken to the hospital, via an ambulance, the transportation is usually covered by insurance.

However; upon discharge the question looms of how to return to Silverado.

Care Conference

Preparation for your upping Care Conference :

You will be contacted to schedule a Care Conference. Take steps to prepare yourself and be better informed about your Loved Ones’s care.

  • Review the “Nurse’s Notes”:

    • Legalities do not allow the printing of Nurse’s Notes

    • These must be reviewed, in person, with the Director of Health Services

  • Request from the nurse:

    • “Medical Information”

    • Medication list (aka: “Physicians Order Review”)

    • “Service Plan Detail”

  • Make sure you understand all the codes on the medication list:

    • Prescription Abbreviations

    • Note the dosage and frequency

    • Obtain your pharmacy bills

    • Compare the pharmacy bills to the medication list especially checking the “PRN” medications

Emergency Room Visits

Were you prepared when your Loved One needed to be transported to the Emergency Room at the local hospital?

Chances are you were not!

It is important to realize that the ER and Admitting staffs misunderstand “Dementia” and “Alzheimer’s”. It is important to be very strong, and forcefully inform them, that your Loved One:

  • Is a dementia patient.

  • Resides in a memory care community.

  • Is non-communicative.

You need to be at your Loved One’s side. The ER staff needs to communicate with you!

The following link covers the most common questions asked by paramedics, ER staff and ER admitting personnel.
